Indie-Electronica-Projekt aus Leipzig, gegründet 2009.
Bandgründung in Besetzung Schütze / Benkert / Wienczny, Robert "Arpen" Seidel kam ca. 2010/11 von seiner schon 2006 gegründeten PostPop Formation Mud Mahaka hinzu, ab 2011 in konstanter Besetzung Schütze / Arpen / Pruss. Gründungs-Drummer Florian wechselte später zum Hamburger PostRock Projekt Hundreds. Fabian Schütze ist zudem Mitbetreiber des Labels analogsoul, auf dem sämtliche Musik von A Forest und weiteres von den assoziierten Bandprojekten veröffentlicht wurde.
Alle Musiker betrieben parallel weiter eigene Bands: Arpen neben den bis 2014 aktiven Mud Mahaka (offizieller Split erst Mitte 2016!) noch deren Ableger Der Empfang (Arpen / Klöckner / Müller), Fabian seine Projekte Me & Oceans und Zweistreifen, Pruss trommelte in den eher jazz-orientierten Bands Eder (siehe unten) und Mira Mode Orchestra (CD "Restless city", 2013). Im Jahrgang 2014 gehörte A Forest zu den Leipziger "Bands des Jahres". Ende 2015 wurde eine Bandpause angekündigt, in der sich alle verstärkt ihren Neben- und Solo-Aktivitäten widmeten.
